The
Bioenergy Practitioner’s Code of Conduct
What is Bioenergy?
The phenomenon called life has two components:
the first is biochemical, while the other pertains to energy. These
two aspects can exist separately, but not in a form recognized as
life on planet Earth. Energy animates matter by penetrating it. Its
withdrawal from the body signals clinical death (when EEG and EKG
can no longer be detected). Clinical death initiates the process of
decomposing the body into the smallest biochemical particles.
We are all built from these two components — biochemical matter
and energy. The energy that animates the bodies of humans and animals
is known as bioenergy – the energy of life. This force surrounds
every cell like a miniature wire, providing a blueprint for the physical
body and also serving as a medium for the flow of information throughout
the body. Bioenergy also extends outside of the physical body, creating
low frequency electromagnetic fields around us (as well as other subtle
energy fields not yet recognized by science). In a larger context,
bioenergy is an inseparable component of the Universal Energy.
A skillful bioenergy practitioner can detect these fields, as well
as energy flows in the body. Everything that happens to the physical
body is reflected in its energy flows and vice versa. By returning
these flows and fields to normal, the bioenergy practitioner should
be able to restore the balance between biochemical and bioenergy components,
resulting in the improvement of health.
"Bioenergy practice" is a healing art that assists in the
restoration of health on physical, emotional, mental and spiritual
levels by correcting energy flows.
Bioenergy practice is a non-invasive, non-touch method that may be
performed for any illness, stress or injury as a healing practice
that has no known side effects and is complementary to all other therapeutic
practices.
In order to heal, the bioenergy practitioner may use: a direct non-touch
practice, long distance energy work and meditation and prayer. By
using any or all of these methods, whether in the presence of a client
or not, the bioenergy practitioner seeks to induce a beneficial effect
in the recipient’s life force at all levels of existence.
Distinctions and discrimination based on race, religion, or gender,
are inappropriate.
Bioenergy practitioners must ensure that they themselves are medically,
physically and psychologically fit to practice.
Bioenergy practitioners should display a certificate and this Code
of Conduct in their primary place of practice.
Bioenergy practitioners must act with consideration and sensitivity
toward clients concerning fees or donations. Before each initial session,
the bioenergy practitioner must give a written or verbal explanation
of the procedures involved in this practice. Conversation with clients
should be limited to necessary information. Bioenergy work should
not be mistaken for psychotherapy or clairvoyant readings.
Bioenergy practice is a complementary discipline rather than an alternative
to conventional medical treatment.
It is essential that bioenergy practitioners make it quite clear that
they are not physicians and do not purport to have the knowledge and
skill of medical doctors. If a bioenergy practitioner has a professional
medical diploma and is entitled to give medical diagnosis and prescribe
medicine, the client should know this before a bioenergy session is
performed.
The bioenergy practitioner must recognize that when a medical practitioner
refers a patient to him or her, this medical practitioner remains
clinically accountable for the patient.
Bioenergy practitioners must not prescribe any medications or nutritional
supplements and must not countermand instructions or prescriptions
given by a physician.
Bioenergy practitioners must not prescribe or sell remedies, herbs,
oils, etc., unless their training and qualifications entitle them
to do so.
Bioenergy practitioners must not advise a particular course of medical
treatment, or offer on whether a client should undergo an operation
or take specific drugs. It must be up to the clients to make their
own decisions according to medical advice and information they have
received.
The bioenergy practitioner must not give any medical diagnoses to
clients under any circumstances, as this is the responsibility of
a physician.
The practitioner can, however, give bioenergy diagnosis and advice,
and should keep documentation of such advice in the client's record.
The content of all bioenergy advice should be dignified in tone and
free of testimonials, claims of cures and mention of specific diseases.
Bioenergy practitioners must disclaim all ability to cure and offer
only to attempt bioenergy relief. Recovery must never be promised.
Proper moral conduct must always be paramount in the bioenergy practitioner’s
relationship with clients. Practitioners must always behave with courtesy,
dignity, tact and discretion. Their attitude must be positive, sympathetic,
uplifting to the client’s mental outlook and supportive of a
gradual progression toward wholeness.
A bioenergy practitioner’s behavior must not include any actions
that might be construed as “indecent behavior” or “sexual
harassment”.
Bioenergy practitioners must never ask for the removal of a client’s
clothing, except for outerwear (coat or jacket) and footwear.
No third party, including assistants and members of the client’s
family, may be present during the course of a consultation with an
adult client without his or her expressed consent.
Bioenergy practitioners must not directly touch the skin and should
not use manipulation or massage during a bioenergy session. This is
a non-touch practice, which is performed at a certain distance from
the body. Bioenergy practitioners with appropriate qualifications
may use manipulation and massage as separate treatments.
For the protection of the bioenergy practitioner discretion must be
used when conducting private appointments with clients who appear
to be mentally unstable, addicted to drugs or alcohol, or severely
depressed, suicidal or hallucinating. Only a Master of Bioenergy can
work in cases of this nature, and only when accompanied by a family
member or another healer.
Bioenergy practitioners must not work with clients in any cases which
exceed their training and competence.
Bioenergy practitioners must ensure that they keep clear and comprehensive
records of their sessions, including dates. Since bioenergy practice
is not a medical method, the records should contain only a bioenergy
diagnosis.
Bioenergy practitioners must treat as confidential all information
of a personal nature given by a client or a client’s family
members.
No disclosure may be made to any third party, including any member
of the client’s own family, without the client’s consent,
unless it is required by due process of law.
Bioenergy work must be performed only in response to a request from
an adult client or his or her representative. In the case of a child,
sessions may only take place with the approval of a parent or legal
guardian.
Bioenergy practitioners visiting hospitals must remember that these
institutions are responsible for their patients. Discretion while
visiting is strongly advised. In some circumstances distant healing
may be more appropriate.
Hospital visits may be made only with permission from the patient’s
physician. If there is any doubt that permission exists, it must be
obtained in writing. The bioenergy practitioner must never undermine
a client’s faith in a hospital treatment or regime.
Bioenergy practice does not constitute form of a medical aid as defined
by law. Every person who comes for a bioenergy session should have
a clear understanding that the bioenergy practitioner is not a medical
doctor. In order to be certain that mutual understanding exists, the
bioenergy practitioner must obtain the patient’s signature on
the “Wirkus Bioenergy Practitioners — Memorandum of Understanding.”
This statement should be kept with the bioenergy records.
If working with an animal, the bioenergy practitioner must seek assurance
from the owner that a veterinarian has conducted an examination. The
veterinarian remains in charge of the case and the bioenergy practitioner
shall not countermand any instructions or medicines prescribed. Similarly,
the bioenergy practitioner shall neither suggest a medical diagnosis
nor advise any course of veterinary treatment. The bioenergy practitioner
should keep a record of every animal visit.
